About Audrey Nathalie Dubois

Audrey Nathalie Dubois (AND Studio) develops a body of work in colored pencil on tracing paper, exploring the interplay between light, vegetation, and transparency. Trained at the Beaux-Arts in Marseille and at the École du Paysage in Versailles, she exhibits her work, takes part in residencies, and engages in diverse artistic collaborations.

Inspired by nature and the Mediterranean world, she seeks to capture the invisible and the ephemeral within her vision of the Mediterranean landscape.

Her favored medium is colored pencil on extra-thick, velvety tracing paper (300g). Through tracing paper, she explores light not as a frontal illumination, but as a diffuse, intimate, permeating presence. Initially a tool for landscape design research, tracing paper has now become a medium for new explorations. It lets things pass through—like what is seen, and sometimes what traverses us. Her drawing inhabits this in-between.

The act of drawing with colored pencil is slow and attentive; it is less about representation than about capturing, a fleeting sensation held and laid gently on the paper.

Recently settled in Marseille…

"My work, at first glance, may seem quite the opposite: it unfolds in a diffuse light, softened by the tracing paper, filtered as if through the veil of eyelids. It is within this diffusion that I reconnect, differently, with the clarity of the South. I also seek what is hidden. I do not expose it directly; I invite it to emerge softly, in subtle shades. Where the southern light reveals through brilliance, my light reveals through permeation. For a long time, I wondered what these two kinds of light might say to one another, until I understood what they share: the desire for revelation."
