Liz Bono: Between Silence and Light, Nature Reinvented

Born in Guadalajara in 1970, Liz Bono is a Mexican painter whose artistic journey spans continents, from the shores of Mexico, through the luminous cities of Canada, to the evocative landscapes of France, where she now lives and works. Her diverse education, from the Decorative Arts School in Guadalajara, through the School of Visual Arts in Montreal, to the Fine Arts Academy in Rome, has shaped a rare sensibility, enriched by varied techniques and a profound love for materiality.

Her work, exhibited internationally, is characterized by a continual dialogue between abstraction and nature. Working primarily in oil and acrylic, Liz Bono crafts delicate canvases where each layer, each glaze, seems to suspend time itself. Her palette captures light, rendering an atmosphere at once tender and vibrant. Drawing inspiration from organic forms, trees, rocks, clouds, she offers a tranquil vision of nature, removed from chaos, almost meditative.

The tree, a recurring motif, emerges under her brush as a living presence, both fragile and majestic. The line is precise, the texture subtle, the background luminous. Vast spaces open up, silence is almost tangible. One senses the influence of photography, another of her passions, in her ability to distill the essential and to suggest rather than to reveal outright.

Liz Bono’s painting invites immersion and contemplation. Her colors, sometimes daring, sometimes translucent, unveil deep emotions, while her textures beckon a tactile exploration.

Today, her works reside in both public and private collections. In 2010, she was commissioned by Mexico’s Secretary of Culture to create a mural commemorating the bicentennial of independence, the centennial of the Mexican Revolution, and the dawn of the 21st century, now displayed on the façade of the Federal Palace in Guadalajara.

Liz Bono has established a distinctive voice, marked by a palpable freshness and humility in every piece.
