After studying graphic arts in Paris, Marylin Cavin worked for several years as a graphic designer, then as a textile designer. Her artistic career really began about twenty years ago with the collaboration of a major Parisian fashion house for which she created models based on Matisse. This was the turning point. She then decided to devote herself solely to her painting.

Marylin Cavin paints characters evolving in a sober environment, in scenes of life that reflect our contemporary world.

"Everyone, she says, can imagine what they want from these snapshots. The canvas does not show anything other than what we see. These people are just there, we are looking at them, but in fact, we are looking at ourselves. It's a reflection of who we all are. The canvas is a mirror. What matters to me is to show a suspended moment that can reveal each of us."

Marylin Cavin - Painter - Galerie d'art de Francony In his latest series, which is treated with charcoal and black stone, the figures are transparent on two-coloured backgrounds. They are made with acrylics that the artist makes with pigments. She says that she particularly likes the mattness of these handmade paints which bring a great richness of tone and matter. For some of these paintings (Volutes invisibles, Equilibre et suspension), she has sewn pieces of canvas together to create some small accidents due to the seams. In another painting (Double sky), the assembly of two frames creates a horizontal fault.
